Have you ever gotten a Tarot card reading and freaked out when a seemingly scary card revealed itself? I personally have and it was not a pleasant feeling! I felt a sense of panic and sadness at the mention of the card because I was assuming the worst.
Once the psychic explained the card to me, as well as it’s role in my life, I understood and I was able to calm down. It’s important to know that these scary sounding Tarot cards don’t necessarily foreshadow an unfortunate string of luck or a bad omen.
As a matter of fact, a lot of the worst sounding cards actually symbolize really good things that are either going to happen, are happening, or have happened to you.
I wish I would have done some research before my first authentic Tarot card reading so that I would’ve been more prepared. That’s why I decided to talk a little about the four most misunderstood Tarot cards. I’m hoping that you can learn from my mistakes and avoid unnecessary fear and anxiety.
Knowledge is power and once you’ve become familiar with these seemingly bad cards, you won’t be afraid of them if they turn up in a reading.
The Devil![The devil card meaning]()
The Devil card is one of the most frightening cards when it turns up during a Tarot reading. It’s so controversial and dreadful to some that they can’t deal with it if it is drawn. They shut down and think the worst. This makes sense considering that any images that seem demonic or satanic can invoke primal feelings of horror, terror and dread.
These are perfectly natural responses if you don’t know what you’re dealing with, which is why being aware will set you at ease. Despite what most people believe, the Devil card is actually a good thing! It represents breaking free from a confined existence and it also symbolizes pleasure.
Having this card drawn during a reading means that it’s time for you to set yourself free from things that are holding you back. It means you need to let go of any past baggage that’s keeping you down and you need to discover what it is that makes you feel truly alive.
It represents detaching yourself from toxic relationships, overcoming addictions, and reclaiming your power, and finding your independence. When you do the opposite of these things (stay in toxic relationships, get addicted to drugs, lose your independence) you feel like you have no choice in the matter and that this is just how your life is.
Don’t be fooled though, this is just the illusion that the Devil has created for you in your mind. It is not true and you always have the power to change anything in your life that you don’t like. If it’s something you can’t change physically, you can change the way you feel about it and stop letting it ruin your life.
Death ![Death Tarot card meaning]()
It’s normal to start thinking about your mortality if a psychic draws the Death card. We have been taught to fear death and anything that has to do with dying. However, you can rest assured knowing that this card doesn’t symbolize the actual death of you or someone you know.
The Death card usually represents spiritual transformations, major life changes, and new beginnings- not the death of a person. It signifies the death of something old so that a new, exciting, positive phase can be born in its place.
These changes and transformations can sudden, unexpected, difficult, and even traumatic, much like death itself. They are what need to happen though so that you can have a new lease on life.
No matter how tough or scary the changes that the Death card brings can be, try not to fight or resist them because that will only make things more difficult. Embrace them instead as a fresh new start and try to look forward to this next phase of your life.
The Fool![The Fool Tarot meaning]()
For a lot of people, seeing or being told that the Fool card was drawn might make them feel “less than bright.” Some people get defensive and angry with the reader at the mention of this card but there’s no need for any of that!
Having the Fool card drawn does not mean you’re acting foolishly or being a dummy. It actually means that it’s time you start acting more spontaneous and having more fun in your life. It means not worrying so much about the things you cannot control and start being more present in the moment.
Basically, this card is trying to let you know that you shouldn’t take yourself so seriously all the time. Live a little! Take some fun risks, do things out of your comfort zone, don’t try to plan everything down to the last minutes. You’ll notice how freeing this can be.
This card can also mean that you’re on the verge of a new, exciting adventure. This new adventure might require you to take a big leap of faith but you can do it! You will grow spiritually and mentally if you allow yourself to take on this new challenge.
The Hermit ![The Hermit tarot meaning]()
If someone who already feels lonely has the Hermit card drawn during a reading, it may make them believe that being alone is their destiny. That would be pretty sad news if that is what the Hermit card meant but fortunately, it doesn’t mean that at all.
This card actually indicates that you’re entering a period of taking some alone time for yourself. It means that you need this quiet time to learn, do some self-reflecting, and find your inner peace. Life can get pretty draining if you’re always neglecting yourself so that you can be there for others so this “only you” time is very important.
Only doing things for other people is the quickest way to get burned out on life and fall into a rut. Self-reflection and learning things about yourself are an integral part of living your best life. Don’t get caught up in what everyone else needs from you. Make sure you are doing everything you can to nurture yourself.
This can mean different things for different people but a lot of times, we can’t look deep within ourselves to see what we need unless we take some time away and unplug from the rest of the world for a couple days, weeks or months even.
Remove yourself from the daily grind and start doing things that you enjoy doing. Schedule a retreat in the mountains, do yoga everyday, go for a long trail run where it’s just you and nature at it’s finest.
As you can see, these four cards may seem bad but they’re actually far from it. Being aware of this before getting a Tarot reading will result in a more accurate reading since you’ll be more responsive to the information being given to you.
You will also feel calmer during the reading and your psychic will be able to sense your relaxed energy and vibe. This helps them be more open with you without being afraid that they’ll scare you away.
